GFJ (335) My first NYC "secret restuarant" experience....

NYC doesn't have secret gardens* we have secret restaurants. Because I have tres cool friends like, Lara Croft, Tomb Raider (LCTR), I was able to dine at one last night......

Okay, okay, so the restaurant may not be SO secret as there is a Yelp for it, but, there is no number and you can't even get past the buzzer unless you have a reservation. I mean, there isn't even a sign and since the restaurant is behind a butcher shop, you wouldn't know it was there. How elitist and chic is that?  (Slash I have no plans on naming the restaurant in this post as I wish to maintain it's secrecy as I LOVE IT THERE and it's dead small and have no desire to make it a place where I have to call a month ahead to get a table.)

Once you are buzzed through the glass doors you are seated in 70's style arm-chairs (or at least I think those chairs look 70's-ish.....actually, I'm sure there is some proper name for them however I am an ignoramous when it comes to furniture.....I'm sure my knowledgable friends, Coco, Lambo and LCTR know) around two lucite side tables. It was the best seat for  one of the most mouthwatering memorable meals of mi vida. I've never been to a Japanese fusion restaurant like this.. It truly was PHENOM!

It started with my Thincumber cocktail (pictured below)

Thincumber... only an Asian restuarant could have cucumber slices so thin...  btw: this picture of the Thincumber was from Lambo's dinner there the other week. Last night, my two Thincumbers were served differently each time.
And then my tastebuds were treated to the rest of this shared meal........
Hamachi Sashimi. Since Coco is gluten free and couldn't have soy-sauce, they gave her kelp water instead. I didn't try it but she said it was quite good.

Crudite on ice...

The amazing fondue for the iced-crudite.

A mushroom cream croquette simply isn't a mushroom cream croquette unless it's topped with uni.

Assorted Mushrooms Risotto

Miso Black Cod with butter sauteed market mushrooms.

Pan Oven Roasted Banzini with Farmer's Market Seasonal Vegetables.

Oh, another treat about this secret restaurant is the fact that they have one of those hi-tech toilets...... When I got up to use the loo Lambo told me to bring my Blackberry. At first I was DEAD CONFUSED until I saw the below on the wall....
The functions of the heated seat toilet.

Don't judge, if this toilet were in a private home I would have tried each of these functions.

Now, I must be honest with you.. at some point during the dinner I got a little sick. I know for sure it wasn't from the food at the secret restaurant. I think it was a result of the dirty buffalo chicken I had for lunch. I couldn't even wait for the bill, nor did I drink my second Thincumber...(which is a huge sign that something is wrong with me as I never leave a booze-filled glass full.) So, I think it's only fair that I go back to the restaurant with Coco, Lambo and LCTR sometime soon... Plus, we need to try their Sake panna cotta with a brown sugar syrup. They ran out by the time we tried ordering.

*(editor's note) I do think we have some secret gardens but none like the kind you find on the property of an English Manor House.
