GFJ (314) And the Gluttony continues at Del Posto....

Warning, I'm going to fromage-out for a second.......after this second, I will resume all ice-queen manners, fret not.....

Last night I met two readers of le blog. At first I was worried that  I was walking into a dinner, meeting two new people, who work in Finance who could potentiall be be in a bad mood as the DOW plummeted yesterday. That wasn't the case as I was met with good spirits all around. (I mean, I even emailed Dee beforehand and was like, "is everyone going to be Sour Sally cause of the market?)

This dinner came about when Dee shared le blog with C, a friend that covers her. C then shared le blog with another friend, Short Hills who she also covers. Flatteringly, C and Short Hills wanted to break some artisinal bread with me.......so to Del Posto we went.

Here is the Velveeta fromage part.......sometimes le blog is DEAD TO ME. It takes a lot of time to do and I feel, gives me only a  little love back slash NO monetary gain (and, at the end of the day, we all want some monetary compensation for "working", right?)... After meeting C and Short Hills last night, the loving feeling was rejuvinated. The fact that two people who have dead busy slash serious Finance jobs, who don't even know me, not only read but enjoy the blog lifted me out of any  doldrums I may have had...

So, C, thank you for the wonderful dinner. I will never forget it slash you are coming drinking this weekend.

Short Hills, I worship you for thinking I'm going to be big one day and you want to get in good before that happens.. One thing that will solidify  you getting in good is dinner at Torrisi.

Dee, worship you for sharing le blog!!!! And because you do such a fantastic job sharing it, I don't judge you for feeding your cats veel chop.

Fromage part is officially over.. Now to the dinner... Del Posto is a tasting menu situation (and despite pouring over the menu before dinner, I didn't realize this until I sat down... I blame the p*t). There is an option for a five or seven-course tasting. Apparently the seven-course takes EONS to complete so we went with the fiver, which, was dead filling.

Overall I'd say Del Posto is an experience. Is it the kind of restaurant you go to on the regular, NOT SO MUCH? I feel like it's something I could do once, maybe twice a year and for a special occassion.  Beast is dead pricey!

Despite the "tip drama" that is going on over there, everyone was quite attentive (even our scary head server). If you watched the video I posted yesterday, I can confirm that they greet every guest as jovially as they did on the youtube video.

Unless you are looking to pick up a geriatric, the scene is not so much. Granted we ate a 6:30pm, the crowd was not a looker one. Everyone around us def wore Depends... with the exception of Mario Cantone, who was clearly miffed at his dinner date.

Basically, you go to DEL POSTO simply for the food, service and experience. I mean, they even switch out your napkin from dinner to dessert. How fierce is that?

BREAKFAST: Gluten free oatmeal
SNACK: Raw Cashews
LUNCH: Salad and Bindae Duk
SNACK: Raw Cashews and Cheddar Cheese
DINNER: DEL POSTO...

I don't remember what each ot these were.. Obviously the red cup was some sort of gazpacho, the little brown balls were these delightful polenta thing-a-ma-jig's and the treat to the left of the balls were like a crab salad thingy in some sort of homemade chip? I don't know. Our sem-strict waitress forgot what it was.

The most amazing homemade bread. So worth the gluten cheat.

The bread came with a side of Lard cured with Olive Oil, Rosemary and Salt and Butter.
Roasted Autumn VEGETABLES with Robiola Sformato & Truffled Hazelnuts
I only ordered this antipasti because of the Robiola. It's my favorite fromage. While I thought the dish was delightful I was surprised that it was served cold. For some reason, I assumed since the veggies were roasted, it would have been warm.. and the veggies were quite crispy for something that has been roasted. I've never had veggies like that before.

PUMPKIN CAPPELLACCI WITH BROWN BUTTER
Even if you aren't a fan of pumpkin, as C isn't, you'll like this Cappellacci.

Ricotta PANSOTI with Wild Asparagus & Black Truffle
If I could date this dish, I would.

Wood-Grilled LOBSTER with Artichokes, Almonds & Basils
This was my feeble attempt to be healthy last night. I love a Basil salad.

VEAL Chop with Grilled Salsify, Cavolo Nero, Porcini Roast, and Barolo Fondo
C and Dee ordered this....Despite being offered, I stupidly didn't try a bite.

The veal chop once plated... Let's discuss the fact that Dee couldn't finish hers so she BROUGHT IT HOME TO HER CATS TO EAT!!!!!! Apparently Lucky loved the Veal chop, Chloe, NOT SO MUCH..
CACCIUCCO with Diver Scallop Carpaccio & Garlic Bread Soup
Short Hills ordered this... I told him he ordered the "lady dish".. He concurred.

Chocolate Ricotta TORTINO, Toasted Sicilian Pistachios & Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gelato
The only reason I ordered this was for the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gelato. If you've never had it, run to Otto (which is another Batali restaurant) and try some.

Pineapple CROSTATA, Champagne Vinegar Caramel & Vanilla Gelato
I wanted three desserts last night. This was one of the others ones which SH ordered so I could have a bite. It tasted like a gourmet McDonald's apple pie.

TARTUFO al Caffe, Dark Chocolate, Sant’Eustachio Coffee, & Candied Lemon
The waiter brought this Tartufo by mistake. It was too chocolate-y for my liking.

Petite Fours... The ones in the middle were HEAVEN SENT!
